This post is inspired by Meryl Streeps in the Devil Wears Prada. We just love her hair and style in this film and it just goes to prove that grey hair can still be glamorous

We’re not talking about about defying age here, we find that many of our guests don’t necessarily want to look younger, they just want to look elegant.

Here are our tips for keeping your hair fabulous as you get older:

Shorter isn’t always better

It’s common for woman to give their ‘the chop’ once they get to a certain age. It can make sense to go shorter as your hair can appear thicker and healthier.

Whilst a cropped style can definitely look amazing, it’s not always necessary to go short as you get older. If you are used to wearing your hair long and have no plans on going shorter then it’s okay, just make sure you keep your hair looking healthy and create plenty of volume when styling.

Work the Bob

The bob is a perfect style for women of all ages and is especially great if you feel short hair doesn’t suit you.

A classic hair cut that never goes out of fashion, bobs are versatile enough to suit most face shapes and are great with layers that create texture and softness.

It’s All About Layers

For some, hair can become finer as you get older, causing the hair to look thin and stringy if kept too long. Layers can give you that much needed volume that makes your hair look fuller and thicker.

Try A Soft Fringe

Asymmetric  fringes are very flattering, helping to soften facial features and conceal wrinkles & fine lines around the eyes and forehead.

Colour Is Important

Grey hair is common as you get older and can change the overall texture of your hair, making it appear dull and lifeless. This can often lead to more effort and upkeep unless a smart approach to colour is taken.

The biggest problem is finding a balance between covering grey hair, avoiding a harsh regrowth and making the look healthy and shiny. Hair colour that is either too dark or too light should be avoided.

We recommend two different approaches:

1. Embrace your grey hair. We’re not saying you should let your hair grow out, it’s more about working with your natural hair colour and using highlights/ lowlights to blend different tones in order create an elegant finish and avoid the dreaded ‘fake hair colour’ look.

2. Make a statement. If your skin tone and personality allow it, be bold and go for a bright, vibrant colour. This can be truly transformational and we’ve seen it work well time and time again.
